All profits from the sale of the book are being donated to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre which is the fundraising arm of St James's Institute of Oncology, where Kate is being treated. The charity provides supplementary benefits; specialist medical equipment, research and development and patient 'home comforts'.
Each day, the Institute has responsibility for treating 1,500 patients from a catchment population of 2.6 million, most of whom will have had a cancer diagnosis. A £10 million appeal was launched in 2007 immediately prior to the relocation of Oncology services to Bexley Wing. This four stranded appeal aims to provide funding towards specialist medical equipment, scientific research & development, patient 'home comforts' and arts and gardens projects. www.yorkshirecancercentre.org.uk
The latest Bright Side Bright Bake took place on the 13th February with a Valentines theme. It raised an astonishing £2055! The cake ladies are hugely thankful to everyone who baked or bought all the goodies. We'll be back in the summer with a 'picnic' themed stall. Please see our Facebook page for further details.
As of 28th July 2016 , we've raised the following. Thank you to everyone for their support.
... from sales of Other Side, Bright Side, sponsored walks, ASDA events etc.
Chris and Kate smashed their £100k target in February 2014. As they both find fundraising so addictive and enjoyable they will continue to raise pennies for the YCC with Kate having the next target of a quarter of a million in mind.
Kate has now completed her "Channel swim" where she completed the equivalent distance of the English Channel over the month of June - a gruelling 21 miles.
Kate is now recovering and already thinking about her next physical challenge, which is likely to force her to face her fear of heights.
